Presented by Diaspora Arts Connection & Center for Iranian Diaspora Studies at SFSU, Third Culture Tales (TCT) is a space for stories that cross borders, challenge definitions, and celebrate the complexity of identity.
On April 11, we return with a powerful lineup of storytellers and musicians who will bring their personal journeys to the stage, exploring themes of belonging, displacement, and self-discovery.
We’re excited to announce the full lineup for our first-ever Los Angeles edition of Third Culture Tales—an evening of powerful storytelling and genre-defying music that explores identity, belonging, and life between cultures.
🎙️ Madina
Madina Wardak is a social worker, facilitator, and founder of Burqas & Beer, a platform exploring Afghan mental health, intergenerational trauma, and identity. Her work bridges cultural healing with community action.
🎙️ Liz
Liz Wentling is a business professional, community organizer, DJ, and activist whose life across continents informs her passion for building vibrant, inclusive communities.
🎙️ Matt
Matt Lieb is a comedian and host of Bad Hasbara – The World’s Most Moral Podcast. His stand-up has appeared on VICELAND, Hulu, and SiriusXM, and he’s a regular on Good Mythical Morning.
🎙️ Akanksha
Akanksha Aurora is a writer, storyteller, and comedian from Bombay, now based in LA. A two-time Moth StorySLAM winner, her work blends wit and emotional honesty in stories about immigration, identity, and self-discovery.
🎙️ Nazy
Nazy is the founder of Diaspora Arts Connection, a human rights advocate and cultural activist whose stories focus on resilience, displacement, and the meaning of home.
🎶 Andrew & Casey
Andrew Hall and Casey Garcia have been creative collaborators for nearly two decades. From touring the U.S. with their psychedelic rock band Mountain Tamer to crafting industrial soundscapes with their latest project Signal Bleach, their music pushes boundaries while staying deeply rooted in emotion and storytelling.
At its heart, TCT is about amplifying the voices of those who have lived between cultures—immigrants, refugees, global nomads, and anyone whose identity has been shaped by movement and transition. Through spoken word, music, and personal narratives, we explore what it means to create a home in unfamiliar spaces, to embrace hybrid identities, and to redefine belonging on our own terms.
Each Third Culture Tales event brings together a diverse audience—some who see themselves reflected in the stories, and others who gain new perspectives on the shared human experience of navigating identity.
